When driving, there are likely hundreds of traffic laws — including speed limits and signs — that drivers obey, sometimes subconsciously, without full awareness of the importance of doing so. Unfortunately, failure to obey a traffic sign could have serious, life-changing consequences. For example, a man in Texas recently lost his life in a car accident.
The incident that took the man’s life reportedly happened just before 8 p.m. on a day in July. According to reports, the 29-year-old driver of a pickup truck failed to stop at a stop sign. As a result, the truck is said to have struck a sedan driven by the now-deceased victim.
Police claim that the driver, a woman, and a male passenger in the pickup truck both fled the scene. Police officers were able to locate them soon after; the man was questioned and released. The woman reportedly told police officers that she left the scene because she was afraid and admitted to drinking several beers in the hour and a half, approximately, prior to the accident.
The woman is now charged with failure to stop and render aid in an accident involving death and intoxicated manslaughter as a result of the fatal car accident. Unfortunately, the family of the man is now forced to come to terms with the news of his death. For many in Texas, such a sudden loss can leave them facing an uncertain financial future due to funeral costs and lost wages. As such, some choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the parties deemed responsible if a loss was the result of another’s negligence.
